The University of Oklahoma’s softball team won their second straight national championship Tuesday night.
The 10th-seeded Sooners won 5-4 over the top-seeded Florida Gators.
Sophomore Shay Knighten hit a three-run double in the second inning, giving OU a 5-3 lead. She was later named the series' Most Outstanding Player.
The championship gives the program their fourth title, all coming under the directon of head coach Patty Gasso.
On Monday night, OU won the first game of the championship series in a 17-inning battle with the Gators, by a score of 7-5. The game lasted five and a half hours, making it the longest game in the history of the Women’s College World Series championship round.
OU was also lifted in that game by Shay Knighten, who hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the 17th-inning.
