Records show U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt traveled to his home state of Oklahoma 10 times during his first three full months on the job.
Travel documents obtained by the Environmental Integrity Project show Pruitt spent nearly half his days from March through May in Oklahoma or traveling to and from the state, where he previously served as attorney general.
Documented reasons for the trips include tours of a chemical company and a contaminated creek, and other "informational meetings." But travel with Oklahoma stops also included a speech to the American Legislative Exchange Council and a meeting at the Heritage Foundation.
Most of Pruitt’s $12,000 in airfare was paid for by the EPA. Records show Pruitt paid for portions of a small number of the trips himself.
EPA officials not respond to interview requests, but a spokesperson told other news outlets Pruitt's travel was related to agency business.
