It's been a while since Code Switch correspondent Gene Demby and I gathered in a studio to talk sports for the Pop Culture Happy Hour spinoff we call The Giant Foam Finger. But the stars aligned perfectly this week – thanks, in large part, to the Golden State Warriors' July 4 signing of superstar small forward Kevin Durant, which has led to prolific hand-wringing about the short-term future of pro basketball.

Kevin Durant is leaving Oklahoma City to join the Golden State Warriors.

The NBA’s former MVP and four-time scoring champion announced his decision Monday morning to play alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson on a loaded Warriors team that set the league’s regular season victory record last season.

ESPN reports the two-year deal is worth $54.3 million.

Kevin Durant has a fractured foot and the Oklahoma City Thunder say they are not sure how long the NBA's MVP will be sidelined.

General Manager Sam Presti said in a statement Sunday that Durant informed the team of "discomfort" in his right foot after practice a day earlier.

He underwent tests and the team says he was diagnosed with a "Jones" fracture. The team says traditional treatment requires surgery, and recent NBA cases have resulted in a return to play in six to eight weeks.

Kevin Durant is featured in a new commercial for Foot Locker and Nike.
