Education officials around the state are praising Congress for approving the Every Student Succeeds Act. State officials believe this new education law will correct many of the weaknesses in the No Child Left Behind Act.
State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister is hopeful that President Obama will sign the Every Student Succeeds Act in to law. She says it will give Oklahoma education stakeholders the authority and responsibility over their schools that they have long sought. Hofmeister also says the new law will strengthen Oklahoma’s control over teacher evaluations, assessments, and accountability.
The Superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools, Rob Neu, also released a statement applauding Congress’s action. He said this new law will help students and schools improve while reducing the burden of high stakes testing.
The U.S. Senate passed the bill on Wednesday, and the measure is now on President Obama’s desk for his consideration and signature.
