Oklahoma Documentary Explores Family And Early American Music

The 14th annual deadCENTERFilm Festival is in full swing in downtown Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma documentary This May Be The Last Time revisits the mysterious death of director SterlinHarjo's grandfather and how hymns played a role then and now in uniting families and communities in times of worship, joy, mourning, hope, tragedy. This deeply personal journey starts in Oklahoma’s Native churches and carries on through astounding connections to slavery in the deep American South and onward as far away as the Scottish highlands.

This May Be The Last Time screens at deadCENTER on Saturday at 8pm at Noble Theater at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and Sunday at 4:30pm at Fred Jones Theater at Harkins.

Our partners at This Land talked with Harjo about the documentary, his family, and the music. Hear that interview below.
