OKCPS Acting Superintendent Lacks State Certification

Emily Wendler / KOSU
Acting Superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools, Aurora Lora, talks about cutting $10 million from the district's budget in May.

The acting superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools has worked for almost two years without certification required by the state.

Oklahoma law mandates that school superintendents and assistant superintendents take a state test, and obtain a certification.

However, acting superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools, Aurora Lora, did not do this when she began working for the district nearly two years ago.

The district released a statement Tuesday saying this was a complete oversight on their part. And that Lora recently completed the certification exam and is expecting her results in the next few days.

OKCPS will receive a deficiency mark on their annual accreditation for this year, but that will be remedied if Lora passes.

Lora, hired as assistant superintendent in 2014, has run the district since April, when the school board cut ties with former district leader Rob Neu.
