Oklahomans would be allowed to openly carry firearms without a license, training or background checks under a bill that has easily cleared a Senate committee.
The Senate Rules Committee voted 10-3 for the bill by Broken Arrow Republican Sen. Nathan Dahm that has been referred to as a "constitutional-carry" proposal.
The bill now heads to the full Senate. The bill would allow anyone over the age of 21 to carry a firearm openly, unless they have been convicted of a felony.
A license would still be needed to carry a firearm concealed.
The committee also approved a resolution calling for a public vote on whether to loosen Oklahoma's gun laws by limiting the Legislature's ability to regulate carrying firearms.
