A New Dance Floor for OKC High School

The OKC Midtown Rotary is getting a first look at a new high school dance floor it helped purchase.

Giving Chair Ian Dauteuill says many in his group were hearing from students about the importance of the dance program at the Oklahoma City school.

"The only reason some of these students are coming to school and staying involved in school is because they love this dance program so much."

But he says the original dance floor at Southeast High School in Oklahoma City had become dangerous.

"There were a few injuries. The original floor that was there wasn't padded at all. there were splinters coming up, things like that. So, they laid down this dance floor cover to try and protect the students from that."

The Oklahoma City Midtown Rotary raised more than $4,500 for the nearly $17,000 floor with the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation and district providing the rest.

The money raised comes from the Rotary’s annual Spelling Bee(R) event at the Will Rogers Theatre in Oklahoma City.
