Mustang Schools Abandon Bible Curriculum Tied to Hobby Lobby President

A one-year trial of Bible curriculum developed by the Green Scholars Initiative, a group affiliated with Hobby Lobby President Steve Green, has been abandoned by Mustang Public Schools.

The Oklahoman reports the Mustang School District will still review two other curricula in spring 2015 for selection and application toward a “History of the Bible” course at Mustang High School.

Sean McDaniel, superintendent of Mustang Schools, told The Oklahoman that the school board abandoned efforts to adopt the Green curriculum because its creators did not turn over a completed version as the board requested.

Green told the school board last fall that the curriculum wasn't intended to proselytize or "go down denominational, religious-type roads." But, opponents to the plan alleged Green has a political agenda that "amounts to civil disobedience against the First Amendment."

McDaniel also told The Oklahoman that at least four organizations indicated they might file lawsuits against the school district in regards to the new curriculum.
