Music for the Open Road

A new album from the Adventure Road provides a soundtrack for traveling across Oklahoma.

The Chickasaw Nation Tourism initiative launched an album of original songs last year, but musician Don Juntenen says this year he wanted to create an album of classic songs.

"Doing music to listen to while you're driving in your car around Oklahoma is kind of a fun project, and I think these songs have a certain nostalgia as well as just a great feel. When I'm driving around I like to always have music playing and especially instrumental music because it just takes you away and lets your mind wonder as you're driving."

Juntenen provides all the instruments for the classic songs he says should get people excited to see the sights in the Sooner State.

"It's to encourage people to get out and experience Oklahoma. I wasn't born in Oklahoma, but I spent my whole life here. I grew up here, and playing music, and camping, fishing, traveling, hiking, you know, doing all that stuff outdoors. Oklahoma has a lot to offer."

Songs on the album titled “Highways of Blue” include “Blue Bayou”, “The Air that I Breath”, “Dream Weaver” and “A Matter of Trust.”

The album can be purchased at any of more than 200 Adventure Road stops along I-35 or on iTunes and Amazon.
