Mayor Cornett Touts MAPS 3 Progress in State of the City Address

Casey Cornett
Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett speaks to the crowd at the State of the City.

An estimated crowd of 1,660 people attended Mick Cornett’s 12th State of the City address on Wednesday at the Cox Convention Center.

Calling 2016 the biggest year yet for the MAPS 3 initiative, Cornett boasted about a fairground expo center, senior wellness centers, and the construction of whitewater rapids along the Oklahoma River. Cornett also previewed several MAPS 3 projects that will be completed in the coming years.

“The park is already under construction just to the south of here. The street car and the convention center are not far behind. That’s over 500 million dollars in planning and construction that will be introduced to our economy over the next few years."

Cornett talked about the important work for non-profits, highlighting The Homeless Alliance’s effort to end veteran homelessness.

“We identified 373 veterans who fit the definition of chronically homeless. Of that 373, 262 now have a place to live.”

The mayor also talked about new live music venues, increased efforts in public safety, and a hopeful outlook about the construction of the American Indian Cultural Center.
