Boeing Celebrates Expansion Near Tinker Air Force Base

Boeing plans a ribbon cutting on Friday for a more than 300,000 square foot laboratory at its headquarters adjacent to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.

Spokesperson Lori Rasmussen says the new $80 million dollar facility will house 800 employees who will design, test and apply modernization technologies for Boeing’s legacy aircraft.

"That's where we provide support and modernization services for U.S. and coalition aircraft, and those are the planes like the bombers, the tankers, special operations forces and the AWACS planes that we see here locally flying around at Tinker Air Force Base."

Boeing is also celebrating its 100th birthday.

Rasmussen says the company started on July 15th, 1916 and is ready to move into its next century with this new 290,000 square foot lab

"This is a very exciting time for Boeing. Opening this lab shows Boeing's continued investment in Oklahoma City, and it shows Oklahoma's investment in the aerospace industry."

Friday's ribbon cutting ceremony includes Governor Mary Fallin and other local and state officials.
