Aurora Lora Signs $220,000 Contract With Oklahoma City Public Schools

Emily Wendler / KOSU
Superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools, Aurora Lora, talks about cutting $10 million from the district's budget.

Superintendent Aurora Lora has officially signed a three year contract with the Oklahoma City Public School District. The new superintendent of the state’s largest school district will make $220,000 a year. Her predecessor, Rob Neu, made $240,000 a year.

The contract, signed on July 29th, states that the Superintendent and Board of Education shall discuss and mutually agree on district goals, that will then be a part of the Superintendent’s evaluation. Lora will be evaluated on those goals no later than June 30th of each year of the contract.

The contract also states that stability within the district is critical to improving achievement for all students, and to stabilizing the financial condition of the district. As a result, the Board shall pay Lora $10,000 if she stays until June 20,2018 and $15,000 if she stays until June 30,2019, when her contract ends.

Lora has served as Associate Superintendent of the Oklahoma City Public School district for two years, under her predecessor, Rob Neu. She originally applied for the Superintendent position, but was told she did not have enough experience.

Lora began her career in education as a member of Teach For America—teaching fourth grade in Houston. She has also worked in various administrative positions in school districts across Dallas, Seattle, and Portland, Oregon.
