Phoenix Quest Harry Potter Convention
November 22nd 2013 7:30pm - 11:00pm at Leonardo's Adventure QuestThe Phoenix Quest Harry Potter convention will take place November 22-23, 2013 at Adventure Quest, 200 E. Maple in Enid, Oklahoma. Convention goers will check in at the train depot located at Maple & Grand, be sorted into their houses, and will have the opportunity to attend several different events over the two days, beginning with a Yule Ball on Friday night.
Into the Pensieve, a wizard rock band (WROK), will be performing Friday night at the Yule Ball which will take place upstairs at Leonardo's from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm for ages 12 and over. The cost to attend the Yule Ball is $10 and there will also be refreshments available for purchase.
Saturday will bring convention goers together for a day full of Potter related activities. There will be a House Trivia Challenge presided over by John Crockett, a Horcrux Hunt, costume contests, and craft classes throughout the day.
Other classes include The History of Magical Creatures with Ken Gerhard. Gerhard is a well-known cryptozoologist and has appeared on several national television shows such as Monster Quest and the History Channel documentary, The Real Wolf Man. The Care of Magical Creatures will be given by an animal rescue group from eastern Oklahoma called Royal Gauntlet Birds of Prey that will have approximately twenty birds of prey such as falcons and owls that will give a presentation on conservation and falconry.
Enid native, Mark Marshall, did post-production work on the first Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and will be giving a talk about his experience with the film as well as showing rarely seen footage from the original opening of the first film. Marshall has worked on several major motion pictures.
There will be a discussion panel with local authors and librarians and “fan fiction” and essay contests. The subject of the essay contest is
