OCU Film Institute Presents "The Colors of the Mountain"

October 21st 2012 2:00pm - 5:00pm at Meinders School of Business, OCU

A soccer ball marooned in a minefield is the central image of Arbeláezâ??s quietly assured debut feature film set in a remote village in the Andean region of Colombia. And itâ??s a neat enough symbol for the charactersâ?? lives, which are menaced on one side by guerrillas and on the other by paramilitary groups. In the tradition of other great films on children in wartime: Malleâ??s Goodbye, Children, Clementâ??s Forbidden Games and Boormanâ??s Hope and Glory. Colombiaâ??s Oscar candidate submission and the first film from this country in the Film Instituteâ??s history, The centers on a group of boys led by nine-year-old Manuel; they are obsessed with playing soccer even though minefields abound in the area. This filmâ??s screening is timed to connect with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Jody Williamsâ?? speech on campus in the OCU Distinguished Speaker Series event, Oct. 24.
