Blue Seven celebrates 10th birthday with sneak preview of store expansion

March 23rd 2013 11:00am - 7:00pm at Blue Seven

Local shop Blue Seven celebrates its 10th birthday with a preview of their new store Just OK, Saturday March 23rd from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Blue Seven first opened its doors in 2003 and, ten years later, is one of Oklahoma’s largest independently owned retailers. In addition to carrying well-known national brands like Levi’s, TOMS, Fossil & Redwing Shoes, the store takes pride in carrying local designers’ products, which will be the focus of their new shop, Just OK.

Blue Seven has carried Oklahoma artist products since opening the doors of their first location in 2003. But, the last few years with a successful Oklahoma City Thunder team have made their Oklahoma-inspired goods increasingly popular. “We wanted a separate space where we could gather our local artist items and our Oklahoma-inspired goods,” says owner Caleb Arter, “We have so many customers visiting Blue Seven specifically for Oklahoma tees, this provides an easier way for us to serve them. I think customers will be surprised how many Oklahoma-centric products we carry.”

Another goal with the new shop is to focus on the economic benefits of supporting local artists and brands. “We want local brands to be able to make a living, support their families or send their kids to college with their businesses. Thanks to our loyal customers, we’ve been able to grow and support an expanding full-time staff during the last ten years. Last year we employed 30 individuals and 8 of them full time. We want other Oklahoma brands that we sell to be able to do the same,” says Arter.

In addition to Just OK’s sneak preview, birthday party celebrations include:
• A charity packing project for Hope for Soap, an organization that assembles toiletry bags for the YWCA
• Central Oklahoma Humane Society Dog Adoption in the parking lot
• Free cupcakes for customers and friends starting at 1:30
• Party favor bags for the first 250 visitors to assemble a Hope for Soap bag
• Taste of Soul Eggroll truck
• Red Wing Shoes trunk show in store all day
• Photo booth with the SNL Booth (afternoon)
• Always Greener lounge in the parking lot
• Scavenger hunt for random goodies!

To support the Hope for Soap packing project, Blue Seven is collecting travel-size toiletry items (shampoo, conditioner, face wash, bars of soap, deodorant, hand sanitizer and unopened makeup) at their cash register through March 23rd. Customers that donate can double their Keep it Local OK discount on any one item.
