Scientific Research: Why is is important to the State of Oklahoma?

February 18th 2013 6:30pm - 8:00pm at Helmerich Browsing Room, OSU Library

In less than half a lifetime, our planet's resources will be stretched over 2.2 billion more people. As our population grows and our societies become even more advanced, how can we ensure that our food will be safe to eat, sustainable to grow, efficient to transport and affordable to buy? How can we preserve our animal populations and help them remain stable and healthy? And what about our own population? How will we fight the development of disease and preserve and purify our water supply? No single answer will solve these problems, but scientific research is a great start. During this edition of OSU's Science Cafe, Dr. Stephen McKeever, OSU VP for research, will delve into to the ways research is addressing these and many other unanswered questions in our society to the benefit of our state.

OSU's Science Cafe is a monthly event that highlights interesting, relevant and current science-related research. The events are an opportunity to participate in lively and engaging conversations about science. No science background is required or assumed. Events are free and open to the public.
