Sept. 13, 16, 20-21, 23 at 8 p.m.; Sept. 17 and 24 at 2 p.m. Charles E. Norman Theatre PRESENTED BY: Tulsa Project Theatre "I Am My Own Wife" is the true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, Berlin's most famous transvestite, who survived two of the most oppressive regimes of the 20th century, the Nazis and the Communists. Shortly after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, playwright Doug Wright began a conversation with the elegant and eccentric 65-year-old who hid from the Nazis in plain sight as a woman, while operating an antiques museum. Von Mahlsdorf's harrowing, often humorous, stories of survival through the eras of the Gestapo and the Stasi reveal a remarkable life lived. Tulsa Project Theatre joins with Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma to present this critically acclaimed production. TPT Artistic Director Matthew Alvin Brown portrays more than 30 characters in a fascinating tour-de-force performance.
