Opening Reception for Invisible Eve

May 30th 2013 - 5:00pm

Opening in the Museum's Tulsa World Gallery, Invisible Eve features black and white portraits of incarcerated women convicted of nonviolent crimes in Oklahoma, displayed alongside their personal messages. The evening will include an artist talk and book signing with Yousef Khanfar. This exhibit was made possible by the Dr. Raniyah Ramadan Foundation.

In Invisible Eve, award-winning photographer, Yousef Khanfar, goes behind prison walls, where women convicted of nonviolent crimes are cast away and forgotten. From their cold, dark cells, he brings us powerful images and messages -- not to condemn or commiserate, but to serve as bridges of understanding.

While completing Invisible Eve, Khanfar came to the understanding that he might not be able to help the women inside prison, but their voices might help women outside prison. After taking each portrait, Khanfar asked the women to write a few words of wisdom for the next generation. The women's voices are insightful, some powerful and some painful. The hope is that people will find wisdom within the words, where the fault of one might be the salvation of another. Visit for more information about this project.
