2nd Annual Six Nations Walk Against Domestic Violence

November 1st 2013 - 2:00am

The CDC reports that 39% of Native American women surveyed were victims of intimate partner violence in their lifetime--a rate higher than any other race or ethnicity surveyed. This fact is stunning and the catalyst for the 2nd Annual Six Nations Walk Against Domestic Violence. The walk is designed to raise awareness about domestic violence in all its forms. It is sponsored by the Otoe-Missouria Tribe, Tonkawa Tribe, Ponca Tribe, Osage Nation, Kaw Nation and Pawnee Nation Domestic Violence programs.

The walk takes place Friday, November 1st at 2 p.m. at 5th Street Park in Ponca City. Pre-walk events include guest speakers, a balloon release and memorial songs to remember the victims lost to domestic Violence. The one mile “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” Awareness Walk will follow. Participants will receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last).Come walk in honor of a survivor or to remember a victim of domestic violence.
