New Man in Charge of the House
The State House of Representatives elects a new Speaker to replace T.W. Shannon who is stepping down to run for Senate.
Fairview Representative Jeff Hickman won the Speaker position in a two man race in the Republican Party.
Representative Jeff Hickman emerges victorious from the Republican caucus room at the State Capitol calling his selection a humbling experience.
Hickman says with the session already underway he expects a smooth transition.
“We really don’t have the luxury to make a lot of wholesale changes at this point, so my hope is that all those who are willing to work together on the agenda that the caucus determines we want to advance and move forward and everyone will be given that opportunity.”
Hickman beat out current Speaker Pro Tem Mike Jackson who he says will retain the title of the House’s second in command.
On specific pieces of legislation he is waiting to hear from his caucus about what should be the major issues to be tackled in the upcoming session.
