On Tap: It really is about the beer

Filed by Rachel Hubbard in Feature.

Oklahoma was one of the last states to end prohibition, but many of the laws associated with it still linger.  It’s why wine and liquor aren’t sold in grocery stores, why liquor stores can’t refrigerate their products or sell glasses and accessories and why liquor stores have strict hours.  Are these laws protecting Oklahoma’s culture or standing in the way of commerce and the will of the people?  Why do they really exist, and do we need to keep the state’s liquor laws or reform them?  Let’s talk about it at this month’s appropriately named On Tap.  It’s Wednesday, September 25, 2013 beginning at 6 p.m. inside Picasso Café located at 3009 Paseo Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73103.  The monthly beer special is sponsored by COOP Aleworks.

It appears Oklahoma is lost in the past. Individuals may walk through the streets with a pistol on their hip, but as Representative Wood (Republican) explained to me, we cannot buy wine, liquor or beer stronger than 3.2 in grocery stores or large warehouse stores because of prohibition. We need to step into the 21st Century. Where one can buy these products should not be an issue. Having the convenience of buying in a grocery store, or having it shipped to ones house, is not going to increase the consumption, or make it easier for minors to obtain. There are federal laws governing these actions. And, all states who do not have these restrictions continue to abide by those laws. WAKE UP Oklahoma, it is my life, my rights on which you are trample!!!!
