Cornett Running for Reelection
Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett eliminates the suspense to announce he is seeking another term in office.
The man who has led the capitol city since 2004 faces a challenge for Election Day on March 4th.
Mayor Mick Cornett picked one of the hottest days of the year to go door to door in the Coronado Heights area to announce his plan for reelection.
Cornett says his proudest accomplishment of the past four years is helping build Oklahoma City around people rather than cars.
“We’re recognizing more and more that neighborhoods are the most important thing on people’s minds and if we’re going to keep that next generation, if we’re going to build a city where are kids and our grandkids are going to choose to live we’ve got to invest in our neighborhoods and that’s what we’ve been doing.”
Cornett faces a challenge in city councilman Ed Shadid, but Cornett says with filing still five months away it was too soon to start calling out opponents.
Shadid is holding a party to officially launch his campaign for mayor on August 15th.
