“Corporation Commission Files Complaint in Pollution Case”

The state’s oil and gas regulator has filed a pollution complaint against McClary Trucking after thousands of gallons of oil-field waste was dumped along a rode in Dewey County.

Illegal dumping of oil-field wastes has increased as drilling has grown exponentially in recent years. In some cases, disposal wells are dozens of miles from the producing well. Trucking companies get paid by the load. So in a rural area, its much easier and more profitable for a trucker to simply open the valve, empty 2,000 or so gallons of hot, toxic water onto a county road and drive away. Officials from the OCC previously told The Journal Record that intentional pollution makes up only a small percentage of their pollution cases.
