Twenty years ago today President Bill Clinton signed the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) into law, granting 12 weeks of job protection to workers recovering from an accident, tending to a sick loved one or caring for a new baby. Since that time it has been used more than 100 million times. Yet, nearly half of the workers in the US aren’t covered under the law either because they work part-time or because their employer has less than 50 employees.
