It’s a program growing across the nation and Oklahoma City will be hosting their second annual Better Block event.

On the weekend of May 4th, SW 2nd Street and Klein Avenue will be full of arts and crafts and food vendors like you would see at any other farmer’s market across the nation.

Last year’s volunteers decided on the location of this years event and co-chair Kristen Vails says even though the event is temporary…

“I think by going into an area and showing off what it could be, we’re showing the community that they can get involved and working with the city to make it a permanent project or permanent part of the area.”

Since this is only the second year, they hope to learn how to work with the city to make these projects permanent in the future.

Some of the changes expected  include more benches, organized parking and pedestrian hang outs. Better Block is a program within the Urban Land Institute of Oklahoma, they along with others help fund the event.
