Patti Page, the voice to songs like “How Much is that Doggie in the Window?”, is dead at age 85.
Page, born Clara Ann Fowler in Claremore, Oklahoma, is one of the top selling female artists of all time, topping 100 million in record sales. Perhaps best known for her Tennessee Waltz, a song that dominated the radio airwaves in the early 1950′s. Her butter smooth voice appealed to all audiences — Tennessee Waltz climbed the pop, country, and rhythm and blues charts.
She got her start at the Tulsa radio station KTUL. A band leader passing through the city heard her voice on the radio, and once he found out she was available, left his job to become her manager. Page is scheduled to get honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Grammys in February.
