First African American Speaker to be elected

Lawmakers are coming to the state capitol on Tuesday for Organizational Day to gear up for the upcoming 2013 legislative session.

One of the duties of House members will be to formally elect their Speaker which is expected to Lawton Republican T-W Shannon.

KOSU Capitol Bureau Chief Michael Cross got a chance to sit down with the Speaker-elect.

Before being elected Speaker at about noon on Tuesday, Representative Shannon is expected to meet with about 20 “Wounded Warriors” from the Fort Sill Warrior Transition Unit.
