“Oklahoma City 2013: Water Rights Could Be Year’s Biggest Issue”

A lawsuit between the Chickasaw and Choctaw tribes and Oklahoma City over who controls a large area of water in southeast Oklahoma could be settled next year, but that’s just one step in the process. Congress would have to approve any agreement, and the timeline on that is sketchy.
In 2011, the tribes objected to the city purchasing water rights in Sardis Lake from the state for $28 million.
The lawsuit remains pending, but the parties are engaged in a parallel path of mediation. City Manager Jim Couch said he is optimistic the latest round of mediation is working.
