State leaders are putting together a panel of experts on school security to study factors in keeping kids safe and make possible recommendations which could include legislation.
Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb will chair the commission and says the goal of the group whose members will be named later is to assess and reassess where Oklahoma is at in school security.
“We will do that with subject matter experts from the education field, educators, moms and dads, school board officials, mental health experts, law enforcement personnel, first responders.”
Lamb served as a secret service agent and in 2008 authored the Oklahoma School Security Act.
At a press conference on Thursday, he wouldn’t comment on any specific policies including possible legislation to arm CLEET certified teachers and administrators.
The Commission has support of Republican and Democratic leaders in the House and Senate.
