On this Election Day, KOSU wants to make sure you understand your rights as an employee in Oklahoma.
Vic Albert an employment lawyer with Connor and Winters Law Firm wants Oklahomans to know that an employer cannot stop them from expressing their political views in the work place.
Albert says there is a caveat however if that expression can’t be seen as disruptive, harassing or discriminatory.
“The employer wouldn’t just have the right but actually would have the mandate to step in and address that situation. So it needs to be a healthy expression of the employees’ viewpoints in a way that doesn’t disrupt the work that the employer is trying to accomplish.”
Albert says this extends to an employee’s personal Facebook and twitter accounts as well.
He also wants people to know they are eligible for two hours of paid leave to vote on Election Day unless their shift starts after 10:00am or ends before 4:00pm.
