Student loan debt is not only a problem for those who go back to school at a later age, but also for those of us who continued right through from HS to PhD. My husband and I collectively owe nearly $100,000 15 years out from PhD (he stays at home with kids, I work at OSU). We are lucky in that we locked in low interest rates around 4.0%. My colleague in Australia went to school completely free. It seems American values odd things and education is not one of them.
