Oklahoma Connects to London’s Olympics

Filed by Ben Allen in Feature, Local News.

The Summer Games are underway, and the connections between Oklahoma and London are numerous. From Jake Dalton (University of Oklahoma student-athlete) to the US Lightweight Men’s Four Rowing Team (trained in Oklahoma City), there’s a little red dirt in many events.

Earlier this year, I visited with many of the athletes involved, and got the backstory on each of them.

For one, US Men’s Gymnast Jake Dalton doesn’t fit the profile.

Oklahoma State had a couple athletes attempt to qualify. Toni Young aimed for a spot on the US Track and Field team. Natalja Piliusina also gave it a go for her home country.

Coleman Scott was successful. He’s wrestling a little later in the Olympics.

And read about the US Canoe/Kayak program, based in Oklahoma City.
