Reports: Fatal Shooting At ICE Office In Long Beach

Filed by KOSU News in US News.
February 17, 2012

Two federal agents have been shot after an armed confrontation Thursday at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Long Beach, Calif.

According to a brief statement by ICE, one agent died at the scene and the second was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The names of the agents are not being released pending notification of the next of kin.

A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that the shooter also died. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly about the case.

The shooting began around 5:30 p.m. pacific time on the seventh floor of the Long Beach federal building.

It was not clear what motivated the shooting at the Glenn M. Anderson Federal Building in downtown Long Beach.

Video from a KABC-TV news helicopter showed several police officers on motorcycles escorting an ambulance to a nearby hospital.

An ICE spokeswoman said the incident is being investigated by ICE’s Office of Professional Responsibility, the Long Beach Police Department and the FBI.

In addition to ICE, the federal building also houses the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Probation and Parole Office.
