Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett used his State of the City address to tell members of the business community he has every reason to be optimistic about the future.

More than 1,300 people packed into the Cox Convention Center for the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber State of the City Address, the most to ever attend the event.

Mayor Cornett says the city’s economy is strong, but leaders still need to work on more diversity.

“The energy sector continues to multiply and is getting larger and larger. It’s a really good problem to have, but we must make sure our economy looks at and encourages other market sectors.”

Cornett says Oklahoma City is making great strides in the area of tourism, aviation and biomedical sectors.

He says Oklahoma is being listed at the top nationally in areas of economic security, housing and consumer confidence.

Mayor Cornett recently talked to Morning Edition Host Steve Inskeep and you can hear that interview at NPR.org.
