House Republicans hold the first of three press conferences to go in depth on their legislative agenda in the upcoming session.

Republican leaders say they plan to build on the efforts of modernization and pension reform started last year.

Representative Randy McDaniel of Oklahoma City is authoring a constitutional amendment to prohibit future legislators from using money in the pension system for other programs.

“It looks out for the future generations of Oklahomans. It stands for what we believe in of core principals of good proper management and I’m hoping we’ll have buy-ins from groups across the state.”

McDaniel says the state saved millions last year on teachers and state workers pension changes and has worked in the interim for a deal to fix the pensions for police and fire fighters.

On the area of modernization, the GOP is introducing a bill to put all of the state’s bond indebtedness on line for citizens to see.

There should also be a constitutional vote to limit the number of says the state legislature meets. This should include eliminating the legislator's salary and only pay a per diem. See New Mexico and Nebraska. These guys don't need to be paid anything. Then they would have the incentive to get business done and go back to the real world.
