Autism in the U.S. and the Good Shepherd School

Autism in the United States:

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2006, an average of 1 in 110 children in the U.S. had autism (also known as an autism spectral disorder). (read more here)

In 2002, about 1 in 500 children had autism. (here)

Autism is at least 4 times more likely to occur in boys than girls. (here)

Medical costs for those with autism average about $5,000 more per year than someone without autism. (here)


The Good Shepherd Catholic School at Mercy:

School serves young children ages 3 to 9 with autism or similar neurological disorders. It’s a partnership between the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, University of Central Oklahoma and Mercy Hospital.

Current enrollment: 7

Tuition: $21,000 for full day students; $10,500 for half day students

Location: Mercy Hospital Campus, Oklahoma City

    I think the fees is too much for an average citizen. Aren't there any alternative low cost therapies??
