Two pastors are joining in the Senate District 20 race to fill the seat left empty following the death of David Myers.

The pastor of Heartland Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Chris Humphreys is joining three other Republicans in the Senate race.

Humphreys says he considered running when he saw what was going on in Washington, DC.

“The last three or four months my heads been spinning, but I’ve received lots of encouragement from people to do this, and my family’s behind me.”

Langston resident Magnus Scott works as the pastor of the Mount Olive AME church in Perry and is running as a Democrat.

He says the state needs to do more to help the people in Langston.

“One of our industries in this area is farming. Get with the farmers and see if we can improve their farm production and explore the possibility of having tourists in this area.”

Three Republicans filed on Monday for Senate District 20.

The primary is scheduled for February 14th.
