People in the panhandle are getting ready for an early winter storm with a blizzard warning issued by the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists say by Tuesday the panhandle could see more than a foot of snow with wind gusts as high as 50-miles an hour.

Guymon Emergency Manager Harold Tyson says there’s been a lot of rain which could quickly turn to ice on the streets.

“This is our really first storm and it’s always bad. People always have a hard time driving in our first storm. We usually have a lot of accidents.”

Tyson says the Red Cross is on hand to set up shelters if needed.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says it’s also standing by with 130,000 tons of sand and salt for the icy roadways.
