Filing Starts for north central Oklahoma Senate Seat

Three Republicans are vying for the Senate Seat made vacant after the death of David Myers.
Career Tech Director Phil Berkenbile is throwing his hat in the ring for Senate District 20.
The Morrison resident says he changed his party affiliation to the GOP a couple of years ago after watching the situation in Washington, DC.
“It seemed like it was spend beyond your means and I don’t believe in that. I believe you have a balanced budget like we do here in Oklahoma. I applaud the people that put that in.”
Wayne Murphey, the father of current Representative Jason Murphey works in Logan County as District Two Deputy Commissioner.
He says just like his son, he won’t accept money from lobbyists or special interests.
“I don’t want to be indebted to them. I don’t want to feel pressure from them in casting a vote. I will cast a vote from the grass roots people.”
AJ Griffin runs the Logan Community Services in Guthrie which helps foster and at-risk children.
She says she has serious concerns about the Department of Human Services.
“The system is in need of complete overhaul. There are other states that have been very successful in reducing the number of children that are in custody and improving the quality of life for our children that are in custody.”
The primary election for the district will be held on February 14th with a general election if needed on April 3rd.
