OK Economy Continues Growth

Collections for the month of October and the past 12 months show Oklahoma’s economy is still moving in the right direction according to the State Treasurer.
Treasurer Ken Miller says Oklahoma’s collections last month were more than 7% above October of 2010 and the past year collections are up almost 9%.
Miller says this means lawmakers could be dealing with more money to allocate in the upcoming session.
“The biggest difficulties with budget gaps is behind us. That’s, of course, on the caveat that we’re going to continue on the path we’re on without any interruption in our recovery.”
He says Oklahoma could face problems with the economic situation in Europe and with the super committee in Washington looking at the US debt.
While the slight uptick in unemployment might seem bad, Miller says it just shows more Oklahomans are now seeking work.
