New Leader of the Senate Minority Party

Senate Democrats elect a Claremore man to be the next leader of the minority to replace Andrew Rice.

Claremore Senator Sean Burrage will take the place of Rice who is resigning his seat to move out of state with his wife.

The current assistant Democratic floor leader defeated Jim Wilson of Tahlequah during a caucus election on Tuesday.

Last year, Burrage won a second term without getting any opposition.

Senate President Pro Tem Brian Bingman sent a press release congratulating Burrage calling him a man of integrity.

Governor Fallin also sent out a release calling Burrage a responsible, conscientious and effective lawmaker.

He will take over in the 2012 session to start February sixth in a Senate where Republicans outnumber Democrats, 32 to 16,
