Governor Fallin’s annual food drive for 2011 raises an estimated 1.6 million meals for Oklahoma’s hungry.

The food drive far outpaced last year’s 700,000 meals and exceeded the one million meal goal set when the drive began on November First.

Fallin says the drive ended on Tuesday, but Oklahomans still have to consider those who are going without this holiday season.

“I encourage all Oklahomans to have the giving spirit, especially as we celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday. To be thankful for what we have but to be also remember that there are a lot of people in Oklahoma who have great need.”

The drive included more than 550,000 pounds of food and $233,000 dollars to be distributed to regional food banks in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

With 600,000 facing hunger every day, Oklahoma ranks as the 5th hungriest state in the union.
