An Oklahoma City school is one of just four nationwide being honored for advancements in nutrition served for its students.

400 Students fill the cafeteria at Roosevelt Middle School on Southeast 44th street in Oklahoma City for the Power Lunch Rally provided by Schwan’s Food Service.

Oklahoma City Public Schools Food Services Director Steve Gallagher says Roosevelt’s work in creating better balanced meals is making a difference in the health of the students.

“With attendance, tardiness, trips to the nurses, trips to the office, obviously academics is huge; we think we have a huge role in the academic setting by eating a good balanced meal.”

Schwan’s honored Roosevelt for increasing the availability and frequency of fruits and vegetables, switching to whole grains, reducing sodium and meeting guidelines for the Healthier US School Challenge.

The school also received a $2,000 check which Gallagher says will go to upgrading the service line and adding a salad bar.
