For the sixth year in a row, Feed the Children is providing backpacks full of useful school and hygiene supplies to homeless and at-risk students in Oklahoma City.

State Superintendent Janet Barresi reads to kids at Cesar Chavez Elementary in southeast Oklahoma City surrounded by backpacks the kids are getting.

Erin Carlstrom, the Director of Education Programs with Feed the Children says the reaction from the kids who get the backpacks is priceless.

“One of my favorite comments was from a boy who wrote a thank you letter to me and said “I thank you as many times as there are stars in the sky.” And I thought that says it all.”

The backpacks come with a folder, notebook and crayons, but also have toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo and body wash.

Feed the Children is providing about 2,000 backpacks in Oklahoma City and 150,000 across the US through its Homeless Education and Literacy Program.
