Norman Public Schools and just three other districts nationwide are starting a pilot program designed to reduce the number of dropouts.
The Norman School District is teaming up with America’s Promise Alliance for a three-year program to use digital learning to help remediate students as well as challenge advanced placement students.
Superintendent Joe Siano says this also allows for more flexibility for young people to be involved in extracurricular activities.
“I can take AP courses and also participate in the band or I can take AP courses and be part of the drama club and participate in that type of opportunity.”
America’s Promise which was started by former Secretary of State Colon Powell is offering $1 million to create the program.
The other school districts taking part are located in Miami, Florida, Leonardtown, Maryland and Cherry Valley, Arkansas.
