An Oklahoma City organization is helping the people on the East Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

Three truckloads of water from Feed the Children are helping the people of North Carolina and Virginia as part of Operation Compassion.

Communications Director Tony Sellars says any extra assistance will depend on the availability of road travel.

“A lot of the areas, roads are under water there’s flooding. And, being able to get to the areas that need assistance right now is the big challenge as the damage is starting to be assessed.”

Sellars says Feed the Children is also turning to corporate partners to help out with things like diapers, baby food, paper towels, toiletries, ready-to-eat meals, cleaning supplies and storage items.

Individuals who want to help can give cash donations at feedthechildren.org/disaster.
