Special election dates to replace a Southeast Oklahoma State Representative who died earlier this month have been set.
Governor Fallin set the primary for the special election to replace House District One Representative Rusty Farley for November 8th and the General Election for February 14th.
She says the date had to be extended because of the new regulations to the “Let the Troops Vote” Act and testing of Oklahoma’s new voting machines.
“The only way we could have made the date earlier would have been if we had scheduled the filing date before Representative Farley’s funeral and we didn’t think that was appropriate.”
As it stands now the filing period will run from August 22nd through August 24th.
Rusty Farley who died of a pulmonary aneurism on July Fourth is believed to be the first Republican to win the district.
