OK Treasurer urges Raising of Debt Ceiling
The State Treasurer says Oklahoma’s growth is expanding at an accelerating pace, but inaction by Congress could have a negative impact.
State Treasurer Ken Miller says Oklahoma outpaced collections from a year ago by more than 15%, but worries about Congress not raising the debt ceiling.
He says our economy is still emerging from one of the worst recession since the great depression.
“Your economy is still to fragile to handle the devastating effects that will come with defaulting on us debt, and losing the full faith and credit of the United States. We just can’t experience that.”
Miller also criticizes Congress for the out of control spending which forced us to raise the debt ceiling again.
The month of June saw collections top a billion dollars with increases in every major tax collection category.
