State House leaders are mourning the loss of a freshman Republican lawmaker who died over the weekend at a Texas hospital.
57-year-old Rusty Farley died Monday afternoon in Paris, Texas after suffering a pulmonary aneurism.
Farley represented House District One in McCurtain County in Southeast Oklahoma, and is thought to have been the first Republican to hold that post.
In a press release sending out condolences to the family House Speaker Kris Steele says “Representative Farley quickly developed the admiration of his colleagues in the House through his compassionate character and commitment to solid Oklahoma conservative values”.
During his short time in office he only ran one piece of legislation, House Bill 1055 which would have allowed all voters to vote in primaries with only one party represented.
HB 1055 failed to get a hearing in the House Rules Committee.
